Is it bad to sleep too much?

It is common knowledge that sleep is a very important part of our lives. It is necessary for both the recovery of our body and our brain.

As previously mentioned, sleep hours are essential for our body to recover from daily activity. Sleep hours are not the same for everyone. While a baby may spend more than ten hours sleeping, an adult does not need as many hours.

It is true that much also depends on the activity we perform, as well as our age. What is clear is that both lack of sleep and oversleeping can have negative consequences for our health.

Consequences of not sleeping properly

Poor sleep quality does not allow us to rest properly, and therefore, it does not allow us to recover. Sleep quality can be influenced by both external and internal factors.

Different studies reveal the importance of sleep quality; poor quality increases cognitive aging, as well as having negative effects on memory and concentration.

Oversleeping alters serotonin levels in our body and is a cause of bad moods or headaches.
